Some Penzance hoof photos and notes ...

Before Trim: This is a foundered horse.
Notice the extreme toe wall and heel lengths.
(Front hoof) More importantly, note the Coffin
Bone that has penetrated the sole.

After Initial Trim:
Heels trimmed down. Walls
trimmed down all around.

Toe taken back slightly.
Pain was immediately

diminished enough for horse to
begin to walk more and in a

greater area. (Ground hard & frozen.)
Owner reports after 2 1/2 weeks
that horse is exhibiting hardly any lameness and is now freely moving about in good spirits.
On the road to recovery.

2nd trim 4 weeks later: left front

4th Trim. Notice the frog widening and
the entire hoof rounding. A couple
of old abcesses are evident - signs of healing from founder. The necrotic tissue has to come out of the hoof somewhere and abcessing is the hoof's way of doing this.  val4.jpg (10599 bytes)
Photos below are showing this same hoof in October 2004.

This horse has made remarkable progress in just 10 months. Even though it seems like a long time compare it to the ultimate fate she would have had to endure without this barefoot trim. She is now bringing delight to her owner and small friends, as well. She has purpose, light in her eyes and a strong personality. She moves out beautifully! What a lope on this gal!  Unbelievable!

Before Trim: Not a bad hoof. Old Abcess evident in toe. Walls not excessively overgrown. Alot of old sole.

After Trim: Walls taken down. Some of the old sole removed. Toe rockered slightly. Bars trimmed. As hoof grows through subsequent trims the separations will totally eradicated and old sole will also be eliminated. Hooks on heels will be gone as frog widens and hoof health is restored.

Before & After Trim: Left hind hoof is not yet trimmed. Right hind trimmed. Note the lower heel, scoop in the quarter and Mustang Roll around hoof wall. Notice, also, the angle of the hoof wall of the finished hoof is the same angle of the periople. In the hoof not trimmed there is a slight deviation of angle at that juncture.
