The following shows the hooves conditions of a pony that had just been "adopted" and was in desperate need of an immediate trim ...

BEFORE TRIM: Notice the gross length of the heels as well as the extreme length of the wall. The bars have become overlaid so much as to form false sole. The frog has no ground contact and therefore has withered and caused contracted heels.

The photo above shows one hoof almost
completely trimmed. (on your viewing left)
The actual length of the hoof is still longer
than ideal but if taken down any further
would have  caused the pony to become sore.
The next trim will take care of the rest of
the hoof length.

AFTER TRIM: Although much hoof has been trimmed there still is much to go. Subsequent trims will continue to improve the form and function of all hooves.

The heels are still a bit too long and I want to see the hooks removed and bars straight. We'll follow up in the next month or two (in 3/04) to view the growth and wear patterns of this little pony.
