The photo to the right shows a severely foundered hoof with 20+* rotation of the P3 which was beginning to  penetrate the sole. The 2nd photo shows the first Progressive Trim done on this hoof. Notice that the walls were taken down to share the weight
load equally with the sole callous and the toe was taken back. The heels were also lowered by almost 3/4's of the original length. The frog was not touched except to get rid of rotted material.

The 3rd and 4th photos show the 7th trim and how the horse was moving just 6 months later.

With proper balanced and leveled trimming, correct diet and natural lifestyle, the foundered horse CAN be brought back to serviceable soundness and health. It is NOT a "quick fix" nor is it an easy one that is pain-free. This horse had been lame and chronically foundered for 7 of its 11 years. In the truth of it, less than a full year of treatments *is* a quick recovery for this degree of founder but given that the horse grows a completely new hoof, from coronary to ground level in 8 - 12 months, this type of   rehabilitations is not out of the normal expectations when treating with a correct, natural trim and recovery health program.

UPDATE: October 2004 -- mare continues to improve. This month showed a remarkable progress in concavity of the hooves.
