PHOTO JOURNAL OF CAMMIE'S
TREATMENT & PROGRESS
from late July 2004 to Sept. 5, 2004
This was Cammy just a couple of weeks after 1st trim.
Cammie is a sweet mare who will definitely try her hardest to do what is asked of her. One can read her "emotions" easily in her eyes and on her entire face. She has also turned out to be a mischievous little gal and definitely has a mind of her own! |
This is Cammy shortly after her arrival in Uxbridge,
Massachusetts. She was 'rescued' from a Trail Riding facility on Cape Cod where she was
used for hourly rental until she could no longer perform as needed. Take note of her
entire body that is drawn up and pinched in pain. Her face shows pain and distress with
pinched nostrils, tense chin, worried eyes - her back is hollowed and her gut sucked in;
Her hindquarters are tucked, her tail held tensely to one side and she is standing such
that she's rocked her weight onto her hind heels. Her entire demeanor tells her story. Her strides were short; her tail tense and cocked to one side - she was most uncomfortable on concrete but much more comfortable on pasture. This is
Cammie today, 9/5/04 - alert, eager, willing and sweet. And, in spite of her foundered
left front she is softly and willingly lifting all 4's when as to do so - AT LIBERTY! On
no pain meds other than White Willow Bark. ![]() |
FRONT HOOVES: 7/28/04
|
LEFT FRONT HOOF: 9/05/04
Right Front 9/04
|
| RIGHT REAR HOOF 7/04 before shoes removed from rears:
With every step Cammie took the rear shoes would fall from the hoof at least 1/8" ... they would "slap" the ground with a metallic bonk and she would flinch and limp. It's amazing what these animals will endure.

![]() This is what the bottom of her RR looked like just after removing shoes and before her first trim and the photo below shows after her 1st trim.. ![]() ![]() |
| REAR HOOVES 9/04: RR hoof has filled in solidly and
Cammie exhibits 100% sound on these rear hooves.

9-05-04: This is showing Cammie TROTTING on dirt paddock in spite of her foundered front hoof. She
is freely prancing and dancing around showing off in front of the geldings in her new barn
and not showing any excessive issues with pain. She loves her "treats" and will
chase me when I arrive to get her nose in my pocket. I examined her while she was at
liberty. She lifted all 4 hooves for me softly and willingly with better manners than most
horses I encounter. Cammie is well on the mend and even though abscessing is expected as
the necrotic laminae is expelled, I anticipate no major roadblocks during the rest of
Cammie's rehabilitation. Any comments or questions may be directed to (508) 476-1317 or caballus@charter. net
