CASE 1: Vet Dx Navicular of
9 year old QH. Bar shoes prescribed and improved lameness for a few
weeks after which time horse returned to worse lameness than indicated
before remedial shoeing. Px was poor and little hope of restoration was
given to the owner. Owner made decision to pull the shoes to see
if hooves could be remediated barefoot. Hooves shown on left in shoes.
Hooves on right after initial trim. Progress: in 4 weeks horse was
going at all gaits with no indications of lameness and back into
undersaddle in arena and on New England trails totally barefoot.
Presently being ridden 3 - 4 times a week. Hoof depicted: Right Front.
CASE 2: 23 year old QH mare. In
shoes all of her life. Hoof shown is Right Front. Horse exhibited
100% soundness after trim while being walked and trotting up and down a
gravel driveway and then out in field at liberty. Progress
report: Horse remains sound at all gaits 4 weeks after initial
trim.
CASE 3: Another aged mare, 25 year old Appendix QH, in shoes most
of her life. Owner wanted to see if her mare would benefit from natural
trim as she was displeased with hoof quality. Shoes were removed by
farrier 2 days prior to
